Photo: Catherine and Jack at Askeaton in 1940 Catherine (Kit) was the second youngest daughter of Thomas and Margaret Cunningham. She would have bugun her primary school education at Springbank Catholic School. When Kit was 17 or 18, she moved to Daly Road, Nar Nar Goon South, to the farm "Labasheeda." taken up by her parents. It seemed her role of home and family duties fully occupied her, whether in her own family or moving around other family members assisting them with their growing families. She often recalled stories of Mildura with the Carmichaels, Traralgon with the Phelans and Tutye with the Kennedys. Catherine (Kit) married farmer John Marmaduke Smith in 1922 at St James, Nar Nar Gonn. her marriage required her to leave the "Swamp" area and take up residence north of the Princess Highway on a farm "Askeaton" adjacent to Mount Ararat. |
