Note
|
Mary, the second daughter 0f Thomas and Margaret Cunninghamwas born in Wallace in 1878. She would have attended the Catholic School at Ormond (Springbank) with her brothers and sisters. Mary married Jack Benstead Werribee sometime during 1901. Because Mary and John (Jack) did not have any children, it has been difficult to gather information on either of them. We do know that many of the younger generation stayed with them for varying periods of time. They were a great support to a large family of which many suffered heart breaking disasters. It has been recorded in Peg McInerney's writings that in the most severe times of hardship, one or two of the children from other families might stay permanently with Mary and Jack. This suggestion was most strongly resisted. Mary was a renowned seamstress and was frequently making clothes for the many nephews, neices and friends. |
