Note

John Bernard Cunninghamwas the fifth son born to Thomas and Margaret Cunninghamin Wallace on March 5th 1886. John went to the same school, Ormond Catholic School,(Springbank) as his older brothers.

John's adult life was to be greatly influenced by an accident as a four year old. A badly broken leg failed to mend and resulted in one leg being shorter than the other. After he left school he worked as a clerk for the Wallace Butter Factory.

When his parents moved to Werribee, John remained at Springbank and boarded with the Everard family.

His youngest daughter, Patricia-Sister Bernadette, was posted to teach at the Springbank Catholic School in 1954. She met with Mr Everade, a 90 year old man and several other families who knew John and they spoke very highly of him and of his community spirit.

When John's parents Thomas and Margaret moved to their selected block on Daly Road at Nar Nar Goon South he joined them. His sister Margaret (Maggie) McCarthy and daughter Mary (Mary Monaghan) were also living with them.

Margaret's first husband Daniel McCarthy died at Millbrook in 1905. Margaret was to marry Michael Scanlon in 1910.

John courted Catherine Clarkin, a member of another pioneering family who had selected land on the Kooweerup Swamp.
