SISTERS OF SAINT JOSEPH - APOSTOLATE RECORD PROFESSED: 06 - 01 - 1936 Margaret Cunninghamwas the fifth child and second daughter of Edmond Cunninghamand Nora O'Connor and was born in Werribee. She followed her cousins Julie,Brigid and Margaret in joining the Josephites and dedicated her life to the service of others. Margaret commenced her service in Community Ministry in the diocese of Melbourne on the first of January 1936 with a four year term at Kew. In 1940 she was posted to Brighton and then in 1941 it was back to Kew for the duration of the war years. In 1947 her base was in East Melbourne and her community ministry took her to many parts of Melbourne. For the next ten years she was to minister to many hundreds of needy people and never flinched when asked to complete tasks of all kind. In 1957 it was time to back off a little and Margaret was posted to the Diocese of Sale and worked in Orbost for twelve months. 1958 saw her back in the city and the Diocese of Melbourne for another three years. In 1961, Margaret was posted to the area where her father and his brothers and sisters were born, Springbank and then to Gordon in 1964. She was able to minister to many families and relatives and remained in the area for the next nine years until 1985. Sister St Thomas More retired to Williamstown in 1986 and in 1994 moved into the Josephite's Penola Hostel at Hawthorn East. In 1999 she moved to the Hawthorn East nursing home. Sister St Thomas More passed into eternal life on the 19th October 2001. |
