Note	Local Couple Celebrate Their 50th AnniversaryMr & Mrs William R. Bateman of this village celebrated their golden wedding anniversary on Monday of this week and many relatives and friends attended a reception at their home. William R Bateman and Margaret Finlynson Hetherington were married at the home of the bride's parents, the late Mr & Mrs Richard Hetherington, Orford Township, on February 17, 1879, by the late Rev John Becket, then pastor of St James Presbyterian Church, Thamesville. They were attended by a sister of the groom, Miss Bateman, and a brother of the bride, John Hetherington, who were later married. Mrs Hetherington died last July. Mr & Mrs Bateman made their home on a farm in Orford Township until about 12 years ago, when they retired and came to this village to live. They have two daughters and one son, Mrs E.L. Gammage, of Croton, Miss Margaret Bateman, of Buffalo New York, and John of Aldborough Township. Mr Bateman celebrated his 73rd birthday in November and Mrs Bateman was 72 on April 4th. Both are enjoying good health and spent a happy day receiving congratulations and best wishes from their hosts of friends. Funeral of William Bateman. There passed away Saturday at midnight, a pioneer of this county in the person of William Bateman, son of the late Sara Hogarth and John Bateman. He was born in England in 1855 and came to this country at the age of two years. He settled on a farm on the 12th Concession of Orford Township, residing there until he moved to Thamesville about 15 years ago. He is survived by his wife, two daughters Mrs E Gammage of Croton, Miss Margaret Bateman at home and one son John of Clachan. The funeral was held this afternoon at the home at two o'clock, service being conducted by Rev J.C. Herbison of St James Presbyterian Church.
