Bateman-Campbell

RIDGETOWN, --- Baskets of gladiolas in mixed tones formed the setting for the wedding in Marsh Street Baptist Church, Ridgetown Saturday of Doris Maxine Campbell daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Fred L. Campbell of Ridgetown to John William Bateman son of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Bateman of Howard Township. Rev. Harvey Merritt performed the ceremony.

Entering the church with her father the bride wore a gown of white satin fashioned with nylon yoke and lace bertha. The fitted bodice was buttoned up the back{,} long cleeves formed points over the bride's hands and the peplum skirt fell in a long train. A finger tip veil was held by an Elizabethan headdress. Her bouquet was of white roses and her only ornament was a stirling silver necklace the gift of the groom.

Mrs. P.W. Atkinson of Toronto, sister of the bride, was matron of honor. Her gown of navy taffetta was fashioned with shawl collar and bustle back. Her headdress was of white net and she carried a basket of pink and white daisies. The bridesmaids who were similarly attired were Miss Lois Walker, of London and Miss Kathleen Smith, of Ridgetown. Miss Sylvia Atkinson, niece of the bride was Junior bridesmaid. Little Miss Gayle Foster made a dainty flower girl in a white satin gown with touches of blue velvet and lace underskirt. She carried a basket of white daisies. Teddy Rumble, a cousin of the bride was ring bearer.

Mrs. G.C. Craven of Ridgetown played the wedding music and during the service Glenn Rumble of Blenheim sang "O Promise Me" and "With this ring I Thee Wed".

Mr. Ernest Fleetwood of London brother-in-law of the groom was best man. Ushers were Donald C. McLarty, of Blenheim and Donald L. McLarty of Ridgetown.

Following the ceremony a reception was held in the church palors. Mrs. Campbell received in navy sheer dress with navy hat and white accessories. Her flowers were Better Times roses. Mrs. Bateman, the groom's mother, chose a blue faconne crepe with matching hat a corsage of Better Times roses.

On the wedding trip to Texas the bride wore a navy crepe suit with touches of white and matching hat, shoes and bag. She caried a red shortie coat. On returning Mr. and Mrs. Bateman will reside on the groom's farm in Howard township.

Out of town guests included Mr. and Mrs. P.W. Atkinson of Toronto, Miss Sylvia Atkinson of Toronto; Mr. and Mrs. Robert Kellet of Simcoe; Mr. and Mrs. John Scott of New Jersey; Mr. and Mrs. E. Fleetwood of London; Miss Willena King of London; Miss Maxine Glover of Chatham; Mr. and Mrs. Leighton Rumble of Bleheim; Miss Lois Walker of London; Mr. and Mrs. Douglas Rose of Sarnia.

JOHN W. BATEMAN, RIDGETOWN --- John William (Jack) Bateman, a resident of RR3 Ridgetown, died at Chatham on Tuesday March 15, 1983 in his 59th year. He was born in Howard Twp., son of the late Charles Bateman and the former Bella Scott. He was the founder and former owner of Bateman's Service Center and Bateman's Motor Inn. He served as a school trustee for the Howard Township Schoolboard and was a member of Marsh St. Baptist Church. Surviving are his wife the former Doris M. Campbell; daughters Martha (Mrs Henry Stroud) of Milton, Deborah at home; sons Allan of Ottawa; Frederick of Milton and Douglas of Chatham; four grandchildren; sisters Gladys Bateman of RR 3 Ridgetown, Isobel (Mrs. Ernest Fleetwood) of Bayfield, and the late Mrs. Ruby McDonald and brother Edward Bateman. Resting at the McKinlay Funeral Home, Ridgetown for funeral services on Friday at 1:30 p.m. with Rev. Douglas Ropp officiating. Burial in Greenwood Cemetery, Ridgetown. Donations to the Kidney Foundation appreciated.
