"PAULINE WILHELMINE Steinert nee was born on 18th July, 1858, near Gruenberg. She attended the Gruenberg Lutheran Day School and loved to relate to her children how she encountered hostile natives on her way to school, who forced her to return home. Later the family moved from Gruenberg, first of all to Bethel near Kapunda and then to Point Pass, where they built a new home. Here they took up Virgin country, and Pauline being of stronger physical build, help to CLear the land with a hand Grubber. One of the first facilities that was necassary for the early settlers was a cellar. This was dug by hand in the middle of the yard. Romance came to Pauline. She met and Married Wilhelm Steinert, a farmer of Neales Flat. For a few years the couple lived at Neales Flat but then moved to Anablby near Kapunda, where Wilhelm worked as a farm labourer. But his search for employment meant further moves - to Rocky Plains, then Point Pass, and finally to Stockwell. Life was not easy for Pauline, as Wilhelm was often employed far from home, so that the upbringing and carinf for of the large family rested mainly on her shoulders, but with the help of God she maintained a fine Christian home. Pauline was also an excEllent Cook - her culinary skills were well known and tested out at many Weddings. In later years she was afflicted with eye trouble and needed medical help. She passed away in the Adelaide Hospital on the 10th February, 1919 at the age of 60 years, and was laid to rest in the Freeling cemetary."
