Coroner's Inquisition, 31 December 1833 on Mary Ann Rolfe

Evidence of Ann JOBSON of Writtle:

On FriDay morning last about 8 o'clock she was alarmed by her child coming to her and told her that Mary Ann Rolfe was on fire, that she immediately went to the next cottage and found the deceased in flames. That she attempted to put the flames out and with the assistance of the mother she did so, that the upper part of the body and arms were very much burnt, that she immediately sent for medical assistance, that Mr Barlow junior came directly and soon after Mr Barlow senior and dressed the deceased, that the deceased languished from FriDay morning the 28th of December till SaturDay evening the 29th when it died.

Evidence of Ann DYNES of Writtle:

That on FriDay morning last about 10 o'clock she was informed that Mary Ann Rolfe was burnt, that she went immediately to the house and found her lying upon a bed, very much burnt, that on SaturDay the 29th she went to the village about 5 o'clock and returned about half past 8 when the child was dead, that it had been dead about half an hour.
