Note

Aongus was the first Christian King of Munster. He had twenty-four sonsand twenty-four daughters, whereof he devoted to the service of Godone-half of both sexes.
When this King was baptized by St. Patrick, the Saint offering to fastenhis Staff or Crozier in the ground, accidentally happened to pierce thefoot of Aongus through, whereby he lost much blood, but thinking it to bepart of the Baptism ceremony, he patiently endured it until the Saint hadfinished. He reigned 36 years, at the end of which he and his wifeEithne were slain.
