(128:22), (162:22), (163:22), (164:22).Which of BALDWIN IV's wives was his mother is not specified, but since hewas born abt.1012 and his father married OGIVE in that same year and didnot marry the dau. of RICHARD II until abt.1031, it is a safe assumptionthat OGIVE was Baldwin V's mother. was sworn at Oudenaarde, and the old count continued to reign until hisdeath in 1036. Baldwin V proved a worthy successor, and acquired from thepeople the surname of Debonnaire. He was an active enterprising man andgreatly extended his power by wars and alliances. He obtained from theemperor Henry IV, the territory between the Scheldt and the Dender as animperial fief, and the margraviate of Antwerp. So powerful had he becomethat the Flemish count on the decease of Henry I of France in 1060 wasappointed regent during the minority of Philip I. Before his death, hesaw his eldest daughter Mathilda (d. 1083) sharing the English thronewith William the Conqueror, his eldest son Baldwin of Mons in possessionof Hainaut in right of his wife Richilde, heiress of Regnier V.
