Note	Notes Weis' "Ancestral Roots . . ." (146:15), (191:16), (250:15). In his book, "Early Medieval Italy", Chris Wickham, refers to him as anItalo-Frankish magnate who held lands stretching from Belgium to Veneto(the province of Italy in which the city of Friole is located). When hedivided these lands between his heirs in 864, he explicitly instructedthem to redivide them if civil wars between the adherents of the Emporer,LOUIS THE PIOUS (RIN 1212) and his son, the future Emporer, LOTHAR I (RIN1226), caused the loss of any of them. (These two Emporers were Everard'sfather-in-law and brother-in-law.) LOTHAR's son and heir as king ofItaly, LOUIS II (RIN 2139) continued to rely upon Everard and the othergreat magnates of his father's reign in his administration of the kingdomof Italy. Everard owned what was, in his time, considered to be a veryextensive library of over 50 books and was considered exceptional that hewas one of the few men of his day who was literate enough to be able toread Virgil for pleasure.
