Hugh was born about 1445. Hugh Beresford, gent., third son of Thomas and Agnes, died in 1516 according to the transcription of his memorial in Fenny Bentley church (which also records his son and grandson, so may not be contemporary).[1]

"Hugh Beresford, of Newton Grange, co. Derby, 5th son. Will proved, 1524, had five sons and four daughters."[2]

Hugh, lord of the manor of Newton-Grange who married Agnes Longston, daughter of John Longston of Longston in Derbyshire. It states that he died either in 1516 or 1524.[3]

Hugh Beresford of Newton Grange made a will on 30 June 1524, desiring to be buried in the chancel of Fenny Bentley church, and mentioning: two unmarried daughters (not named); a daughter Alice and her sons John and William; his sons Robert, Lawrence, Thomas, Edmund and John; his wife Agnes; and various other bequests: to the Cathedral churches of Coventry and Lichfield; to the churches and chapels at Fenny Bentley, Warslow, Elkstone, Onecote, Sterndale, Longnor, Tideswell and Wormhill; to John Fiddler, Henry Bayshe?, Richard Risheton and Roger Fletcher; and to Margaret Longdon, Johanne Forst, Katherine Hall and Elizabeth Longdon. His executors were his wife Agnes and son Thomas; overseers Matthew Kniveton and Adam Berisford. Witnesses John Berisford of Newton Grange, John Berisford of Bradley Ashe (Broadlow Ash), Richard Berisford of Parwich gentleman, William Ferne parson of Fenny Bentley, John Ferne of Parwich the elder yeoman and John Ferne the younger
