Nathaniel served in the Colonial Indian War.
Nathaniel was one of the first nine members of the First Churc
h at Stonington, New London County, Connecticut. a signer ofthe Pawcatuck A
rticles 1658; a Freeman of Connecticut, 1666; and Selectman of Stoningto
n 1675.
Nathaniel apparently became ill and died unexpectedly as there i
s nor record of a will. His estate depended on his parents an
d his brotherEisha's son Elihu's wills and or estate probates
. His estate was distributedby a court decision resolving disc
repancies in his parents (William and AnnaStevenson Chesebrough
) will and a subsequent probate (from the Wildey book with mino
r punctuation chages for clarity
----A Court of Assistants held at Hartford October 7, 1673
Where as ye County Court hed at New London Septr 19, 1673 recomm
ended to this Court a difference between Mr. Nathaniel Chesebrou
gh and ye relict and heirs of Mr. Samuel Chesebrough and ye Over
seers of Elihuye only son of Elisha Chesebrough and h is succes
sors which difference aroseby reason of some contradiction (see
mingly at least) between ye last will and testament of Mr. Willi
am Chesebrough and Mrs Anna his wife wch ye Court having conside
red after the reviewing of ye sd wills advised ye parties concer
ned to labour an accomodation between themselves wch they have..
.& presentedto this Cour an agreement under ye hands bearing da
te October 9th 1673. Thiscourt having Perused ye same do appro
ve there of & order it to be recorded amongst ye records as a fi
nal issue of ye sd Difference. (Then follows a longdivision o
f land.)
