DELMAR L. HAMMOND JR. Obituary published 15 March 2006

The funeral for Delmar Lee Hammond Jr., 75, of Enid, will be 11 a.m. today in Anderson-Burris Funeral Home Chapel. The Rev. Michael Frisbie will officiate. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery.

He was born April 21, 1930, in Enid to Delmar L. Sr. and Irene Mongold Hammond and died Saturday, March 11, 2006, in Enid.

He graduated from Billings High School in 1948. He married Ruth Ann Romine Oct. 30, 1949, in Enid. He was drafted into the Army during the Korean War. He attended Oklahoma A&M and later graduated from Phillips University. He was employed at Oklahoma Natural Gas, Western, Tinker Air Force Base, Federal Aviation Administration and Vance Air Force Base. He rebuilt military Jeeps and helped start the 4-Wheel Drive Club of Oklahoma City. He also was a wheat farmer and raised cattle.

Surviving are his wife, Ruth Ann of the home; three daughters, Connie O?Dell of Luther, Cathy Tiefenbrun of Arlington, Texas, and Carla Redding of Enid; one half sister, Sharon Gonzales and one half brother, Cleve Hammond, both of Arvada, Colo.; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be made through the funeral home to Oakwood Christian Church, or Hospice Circle of Love.

Delmar and the submitter of this memorial are distant cousins. Our common ancestors were my 3rd great grandparents, James Hacking (1757-1836) and Ann Pearson (1781- ) of England. Delmar's line goes through the second son William Hacking and his wife Ann Pearson; and mine goes through their third son, James Hacking and Jane Pearson.
