John Wesley King was brought up in Forrest hall, Newcastle upon Tyne and went to sea at the age of 14 in May 1864. In 1872 he became the master of the barque 'Berlin'. In 1878 he ws apointed master of the 'Empire of Peace' and by 1882 was master of the 'Fearnought' |
