PASSING OF A LEADING RESIDENT
The death occurred of Mr. Alexander William Munro, of Too
Yal, Coolamon NSW. Deceased was one of the foremost,
best-known, and most highly respected resident of the district. He was born in Nairn, Scotland & his mother was
Maryann Catherine Waters, born 1805-1906.
Alexander William’s father served in the military, serving in Belgium when he was 21, and served at Waterloo, he was injured twice although it is not know what the injuries were.
Alexander William was born in Bermondsey, Surrey
he attended the asylum military school with his brothers & sisters where they were well educated this is a school for military children, who’s parent are away at war, in England.
Alexander William & Louisa Sargeant arrived
with their daughter Louisa on the Ship Thesis at Port
Phillip Melbourne victoria. They had a Carriage business
In Prahran Victoria for some years before moving to
Coolamon NSW with his family to farm in the pioneering days.
He leaves seven daughters and two sons.
His wife having predeceased him in December last.
The cause of death was Blight's disease. The funeral took
place on Sunday, the remains being interred in the Coolamon
cemetery. There was a very large attendance of residents from all parts of the district, amongst whom much sympathy was expressed for the bereaved family. The pall-bearers were Messrs. A. and R .Robinson, W. and J. Munro, M. Mallon and F. Shephard. The funeral arrangements were carried out by Messrs. Hoye and Colbeck.

Having lived 48 years in Australia, Alexander arrived on the ship Thetis from England to Port Phillip, Melbourne, 1846. The name on the shipping records is spelt MunroE.

He went straight to the Victorian Goldfields upon arrival from England, before becoming a carrier from the steamers at Bourke to the outlying propeties of NW NSW and SW QLD.
