Thomas was 21 years old when he left Ireland to come to Australia.
He came on the ship Palestine which arrived on the 07 03 1842.
Thomas married Ellen the following year after her arrival in Australia in Berrima NSW. He was a school teacher at Goulburn. Later he gained his Inn Keepers Licence and became the Inn Keeper at Gunning "The Rose Thistle and Shamrock" April 1860.
Thomas died on a property called Warri, near the town of Ardlethan on the 25th of December 1885, from paralysis, which he suffered for 10 years. Buried the next day.
