Frederick Wyman Bennett born during the peak of the Civil W ar, Frederick Wyman Bennett was the first-born male child o f Lillian and Frederick Charles. He had an older sister, Je ssie who was 3 years his senior and a baby brother, Robert , who was 8 years younger. No doubt a great influence upo n his life was his aunt Hannah Mitchell,in residence with t hem since a child. She probably was more a sister than anyt hing else to him. When he came of age to work, he immediate ly was offered a position with his father's business . Ther e he clerked until he became an agent when his uncle Josep h left to form his own insurance business. Realize that hi s grandfather ,Robert, also worked in the office and live d with them until his death in 1875. Again, keep in mind th at the Aetna Insurance Company was the oldest and most resp ected insurer that had tested true through time. It was th e largest and most influential insurer within the Cincinnat i area during the mid-1800's. Among its clients was the Pro cter-Gamble company, the Jergens Soap comany, and...Teasdal e Brothers Dye House. Certainly, this business relation se t the framework for young Frederick W. to date and soon mar ry, Lillian Teasdale, the oldest daughter of one of his fat her's most respected clients. Their circle ï73 Šof fri ends formed the elite of Cincinnati blue-bloods and statu s meant the difference between success and failure. To thi s atmosphere we come to a tragic circumstance. Sometime aft er the birth of their last daughter, Mary Elizabeth, Freder ick W. and Lillian began to grow apart. He disliked the soc iety circles and spent much time working away, resulting i n Lillian's request for a divorce. He refused but she ,evid ently, kept pressure for the same. One day, he shot her an d then himself, hoping in a twisted thought to prevent losi ng her.Only the principal parties can truly attest to the r easons for this tragedy. I report it for reference only. H e is buried next to Lillian in Spring Grove Cemetery in th e Bennett plot.
